Summer Program at EMorris Newsletter
7-16-2021
Dear Parents/Guardians:
Thank you so much to all the parents who took the time to ensure that your child came to 21st Century Summer Program. We ended the program with a fun-filled week of Camp Invention Activities. We also played some fun water games and Base Camp Games in the Morning time. During this final week of program, we participated in daily activities to create a cricket in Solarbots, CCeated and sang/rapped songs during Open Mic, some had comedy acts to showcase their skills, completed all the fun tasks during Duck Chuck like chucking a duck at a target, and created our cars to race during Road Rally. I couldn’t believe how fast they went in the hallways. We also had some fun games to play and treats planned to end the program with some extra summer fun!
I want to give a huge shout out to the staff too! WIthout their hard work and dedication your children would not have been able to plan, create, and bring home those awesome robots and Art projects! I hope your child thoroughly enjoyed spending the last 6 weeks with us having fun. Please remember to sign your child up for 21st Century Program during the school year to continue the enrichment and academic activities that we do after school.
Weekly Perfect Attendance Prizes will be given out on Mondays for the previous week. The following students earned Perfect Attendance for Week 5:
Zoey Hill Kyree Jackson Bryson Scott Brandon Carson Dwight Hart Hope Hoskins Faith Hoskins Amori Norwood Jayden Norwood Jaiden Tolson Elijah Young TaLeah Carson Ronnie Gibbs Ja’Cieon Pitts Nolan Polacek Dryia Taylor |

Summer Program at EMorris Newsletter
6-25-2021
Dear Parents/Guardians of EMorris Summer students,
We have been busy having a productive 3rd week of 21st Century Summer School Program for your child. Your children have continued to be amazing transitioning back to in person classes and being able to follow all the guidelines and expectations. During this week of program, we have continued our Innovation kits. We worked on Bot-Ann -E and Robotic Pets. The children loved showing me the dogs and how they worked! They also showed me their bracelets that were made with beads and have a message on them.
We also have several companies coming to EMorris to do enrichment activities. Some of the exciting activities that we have done so far are Bricks for kids, Skillastics, Mad Science, Edible Bracelets, and Cooking Recipes. There were lots of smiling faces when they found out they were painting on their school project today. During Bricks for Kids they also created several different types of vehicles. On Friday, the hallway smelled so good. The clases cooked many different things including nachos and frito pies.
It appears that the buses are familiar with the routes and the children are arriving home earlier each day. Please be prepared for your child’s drop off time to be closer to 4. The buses are being loaded and departing EMorris by 4:05 each day. I have had to reach out to some parents this week who have not been ready for your child’s arrival home.
Next week we plan to continue with more exciting activities for Bricks for Kids, Cooking, Innovations - Optibot & DIY Optibot, Crayola Writing kits have arrived too, and more Mad Science. We are also working on several different arts and crafts activities. Pictures of these will be showcased in next week’s newsletter, but also on the EMorris 21st Century website. It is important for your child to attend school everyday so they can take advantage and experience the many different fun activities we have planned for them this year. Weekly Perfect Attendance Prizes will be given out on Mondays for the previous week. The following students earned Perfect Attendance for Week 2:

During this month of February, I saw several fun activities where the children were engaged and being creative. During Science they were learning about several famous Black History Inventors! I also saw a lot of dancing and singing going on this month connecting to Mr. Smith’s & Co. visits. We also practiced our acting skills with the other sites. Ms. Andrea had some great lessons and discussion about what to do if they need to calm down. Several of us took part in our Black History Program by either reading a quote from Michael Jackson or by dancing to Thriller!
During March, we will continue to work on our Academics (Math, Science, Reading, and Writing) and Enrichment activities( & Little Engineers). We also have a full schedule with special visitors coming to work with us on a variety of activities. Every Thursday, Ms. Rima comes to work with us on Nutrition. Dear Parents/Guardians of Elizabeth Morris students,
We have participated in some fun activities this month! Besides all the hands-on activities that Mrs. Parker and Mrs. Hammers prepare for Academics and Enrichment, we went on a virtual trip to Disney World in Florida. We watched a musical performance about African Drummers and Dancing. We also participated in a Magic House Trip called Your Vote Counts! I am attaching a few pictures that I was able to capture of the fun!
During this month of October, I saw several fun activities where the children were working on their book, Chrysanthemum. I also saw some great work on Place Value and Multiplication. I am sure you saw the creations of the color wheel that they did in Science. I also heard some great stories being written as a whole class, one example was of an animal band! Ms. Andrea has still been visiting us for special lessons on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Sadly, we only have 1 more week of our current Enrichment activities of learning how to take care of pets and learning how to box!
We tried to catch you at conferences if you attended in person. I also called several parents to come pick up the 21st Century supplies. If you have not done so, you will be able to do so at EMorris after Nov. 9th. I will let you know if you still need to pick up these supplies.
During October, we will continue to work on our Academics and then begin our new Enrichment activities. These activities are called Creative Arts and Crafts and Future Programmers of America! We will also have some fun Music performances and another virtual Field trip to participate in this month!
For the month of September, the following students had Perfect Attendance!!
DeMario Cole, Demetriona Cole, Keelen Fulton,
Trust Dugan, Marqevea Lewis-Works, Kharrie Shelby, Kimber’Lynn Tally
If you need to get ahold of me for any reason, my district email is defossetjl@cusd187.org. Dear Parents/Guardians of Elizabeth Morris students,
Yesterday, we had the fun of going on our 1st Virtual Field Trip. We went to visit the Cahokia Mounds in Collinsville, Illinois. I have attached a picture from what we saw in the video. The children were excited to experience a different type of activity.
I want to thank all of the parents/guardians who have assisted our 21st Century students to complete the required PreTest for Math, Reading, and Writing. I know it was very frustrating for several kids, but having them complete them by his or her self will help us know what he or she can do. These test will help us curve our lessons to help your child improve their Academic abilities. Also, don’t worry, we won’t have to do the tests again until the end of the school year.
During this month of September, I saw several fun activities for the teachers and students to get to know each other happening. I also saw how excited they were when Ms. Andrea visits us for special lessons on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Several of our Group B children have been sharing their knowledge about taking care of animals from their group. Group A has also shown me some of their Boxing skills.
I was informed that several of our students’ have not picked up their free supplies. I believe that the buses brought them to your house with the Dinner and Snacks. Please take advantage of these materials that 21st Century has purchased to help the children be successful during our program. There are some math manipulatives, books, markers, pencil, etc. If you still need to receive these supplies you will need to go to the Board Building Annex Monday through Thursday between 8 AM to 4 PM. Only children who are registered for 21st Century can receive these supplies. If you have other children in the district between K to 12, we do have openings still at most schools.

After School Program at EMorris Newsletter
9-14-2020
Dear Parents/Guardians of Elizabeth Morris students,
We have been busy planning a great first month of 21st Century After School Program for your child. I know that this new way of having Program will take a little adjustment for our teachers and our students, but I do believe we can make it a success. Through our program, we will be providing academic lessons and support, providing fun and exciting enrichment opportunities, and help with any assignments not completed. We are lucky to have returning staff members as teachers and paras. These staff members are: Mrs. Parker who will be teaching Science and Math, Mrs. Hammers who will be teaching Reading and Writing, and Ms. Stockett who will be working with all ages but primarily with Second and Third graders. I am also returning as Site Coordinator for my 4th year at EMorris.
Our program will start on Monday, September 14, 2020 at 2:15. At the bottom of this letter is the link for our Zoom meetings. Every Monday through Thursday, we will use the same zoom link for the kids to join us. Everyday 21st Century provides a meal and snack for each child in the program. Since we are not in person for your child to receive these items, the buses will be delivering them starting at 1. At this time, I do not have the exact route and times, so please keep an eye out for the bus to be arriving in front of your address that you put on the registration form starting on Wednesday. For Monday and Tuesday you will need to pick up your child’s meal and snack from Choice, High School, or Wirth Middle School between the hours of 12:30 to 3. On Wednesday they will try to begin delivering the meals to your house. At the beginning of program we will have our snack item while teachers are taking attendance, so even though your child will be eating, have them log onto Zoom so we do not miss them. At 5:00, we will have closing games and activities while your child is eating their meal.
For the first week of program, we may need your assistance in helping your child find their 21St Century Google classroom. Through this app, we will be placing all of our activities, newsletters, announcements, and links for field trips. At the beginning of the program, we will have some activities to help us see where each child academically is. These results will help us see where your child is and how best we can help them improve their academic success.
21st Century has purchased some supplies to help the children be successful during our program. There are some math manipulatives, books, markers, pencil, etc. In order to receive these supplies you will need to go to the Board Building Annex during one of the following days. Only children who are registered for 21st Century can receive these supplies. If you have other children in the district between K to 12, we do have openings still at most schools.

EMorris 21st Century CCLC After School Program
March 2020
Dear Parents/Guardians of Elizabeth Morris students,
We have had a lot of fun this past month at 21st Century After School Program. Mrs. Mammen and Mrs Skaggs have been working with Group A on several yoga and meditation stances. They even had the chance to go on a couple nature walks. Mrs. Parker has been working with Group B on Fashion and Design. They have recently designed airplanes and sneakers. Ms. Mueller and Mrs. Smith worked with Group C on different dances, I have heard some singing skills too. Through their writing activities they have been discussing the Character Education word of the month, Responsibility. For March they will be discussing the Character Education word Honesty. Mrs. Hammers has worked with Group D on several cooking activities. Their cookbooks have a lot of creative meals that they can prepare for you at home. Attached to this newsletter you will see the list of students who have achieved Perfect Attendance for the month of February! In the month of February we had a guest reader from the Library. The children listened to a story about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and had a discussion about what they read and the importance of his actions. They also won certificates for a free meal! Looking through the data for Star Testing, I am seeing so much growth in the majority of our students. Keep working with them at home to enhance those Reading skills! In the month of Marhc, we will have the librarian return to engage us in another Literacy activity, a field trip to The Science Center, and many more adventures!
If you need to get ahold of me for any reason, my district email is defossetjl@cusd187.org. You can also call the school phone during the day and leave a message for me. The school secretary, Ms. Spiask, does not work for the 21st Century Program. She will not be able to answer most questions about the program. She will take a message and I will return the phone calls between 2:15 to 5:15. That number is 618-332-3718. During the program I will be in and out of all the classrooms and will not be able to sit by the phone, I do apologize for this. The best way to reach me is before the program begins at 2:15 PM through email!
